Concord Township:
This new work continues the Township story begun in Volume 1: Prosperity and Progress: Concord Township, Pennsylvania, The Colonial Legacy (Concord Township Historical Society, 1983). Volume 2 reconstructs in detail the landholding pattern and describes the nature of Concord's society and economy from 1800 to 1900, with particular data on the houses and families in the Township up to 1850. Ride along Concord's streets on a simulated wagon ride to learn who lived where, street by street, house by house, through the decades. The authors used a wide range of sources (County records and tax rolls, newspapers, manuscripts, church and meeting records, genealogies, federal manufacturing, agricultural and population census records) to locate every resident's home in 1850, and to cover broader aspects of social and economic development throughout the century. Descriptions of the Civil War experience, the state of agriculture and light industry, and cultural aspects (religion, education, and community organization) round out the picture of Concord in the 1800s.
